It is good to use technolgy to protect your kids if communication has broken down. But it probably is best in the long term to try and keep the channels of communication open. I guess as a last resort I would use these services.
There is no real way to protect your email. If someone with a decent amount of knowledge wants it, then thier going to get it. Not even a background check is going to prevent anything.
